Abstract In architecture and planning domain, sustainability has been considered as a core strategy for over three decades now. The modern era of globalisation, led to homogenisation in architecture, thus widening the gap between Traditional Building Knowledge systems (TBKS) worldwide. This is at an alarming speed alienating architectural concepts from context its people, by ignoring aspects. TBKS evolved line with environmental, cultural, technological, economic, historical within which it exists. current study provides overview involved how addressed international forums UN reports, ancient treatises that formed basis Indian context. four pillars i.e., social, cultural dimensions were parameters measure far achieved built environment. From extensive review literature, set design indicators was identified TBKS. Further, applicability also analysed based on case examples. reveals such indicators, mentioned TBKS, are context-specific nature. Hence, helps achieving building level. paper concludes identifying co-relation calls more studies upon using Systems potential tool achieve sustainability.
